Firstborn by Tosca Lee is the too-long-awaited sequel to the Progeny. I make it sound like years and years, but in reality it was only a couple extra months. But when you have a series as exciting and intriguing as this one, it is hard to wait any amount of time. Even if the reason is that the author is still working on it.
Firstborn picks up where The Progeny leaves off. You do have to read one before you read the second or you will be totally and completely lost. *Spoilers from book one only* Audra is still struggling to put all the pieces together and trying to figure out who she can trust and who not to trust. Just when she and her little group of Progeny think they have the answers, they find out there is something much more going on. Will they ever be able to live safe and free?
Both books keep you hopping around Europe into cities and countrysides most of us will never visit let alone have heard of. Because of the history involved in the story, it makes for a fascinating read. How Tosca ties it all together is what makes her books so good.
Tosca is the author of the underdog. She doesn’t pick her lead characters because they are the best or most loved, in fact she seems to go in the opposite direction. She loves to tell the story of someone that most of us would shun because of their past and show us that they are human also. Whether past mistakes or choices make them seem not loveable, Tosca points out how untrue that is.
If you have never read any of Tosca’s books, this little two book series is a great place to start. Once you get them read, let me recommend a few more to you.
